First Pandora Certified by CarbonNeutral®

The Pandora Brilliance Collection marks the introduction of the first CarbonNeutral® certified Pandora product, featuring one-of-a-kind lab-created diamonds, hand-set in an updated infinity design.

Handcrafted by skilled artisans, Pandora Brilliance is a modern take on traditional diamond jewelry. All the diamonds in the collection are created in a sustainable laboratory, unique and hand-selected for their flawless quality. Like mined diamonds, lab-created Pandora diamonds have the same properties and characteristics and meet the same cut, color, clarity and carat standards. All stones are round cut, exceptional cut, with no color or imperfections visible to the naked eye.

“We hope that through the reimagined symbol of infinity, everyone who wears this jewelry will look to diamonds as a reminder of their achievements and future possibilities…of the infinite power that lies within and of the radiance that lies ahead.”

Filippo Ficarelli and Francesco Terzo,
Pandora creative directors

Created by Pandora Creative Directors Filippo Ficarelli and Francesco Terzo, the Pandora Brilliance Collection is a symbol of opportunity and growth. Ficarelli and Terzo state: “Working with sustainable lab-created diamonds was truly inspiring and the transformative power of these stones led us to the design we created for Pandora Brilliance. Through the reimagined infinity symbol, we hope that everyone who wears this jewelry will look to diamonds as a reminder of their accomplishments and future possibilities, to remind themselves of the infinite power that lurks within and the brilliance to come.”

Each diamond is hand-cut, polished and hand-set for flawless quality and maximum brilliance. By using lab-created diamonds in the Pandora Brilliance collection, Pandora hopes to change the way diamond jewelry is purchased with an environmentally friendly option at affordable prices.

Next year, the Pandora Brilliance collection will be launched worldwide and mined diamonds will no longer be used in Pandora products.

The collection fans have been waiting for has arrived!

Pandora has listened to longtime fans and created a highly anticipated collection of stunning and elegant Pandora Brilliance jewelry. Set with real diamonds in sterling silver, 14K or 14K white gold, the Pandora Brilliance Collection is a dream come true. As with the famous Pandora Love Pod series, Pandora Brilliant rings and bracelets can be worn alone or stacked together for a unique look. Starting at £250, the luxury jewelry collection becomes more accessible.

As Alexander Lacik, CEO of Pandora, stated, “Diamonds are not only forever, but for everyone.” When I first saw the magnificent collection of Pandora Diamonds, I was concerned that larger diamonds would cost around £15,000 like some of the big names. I was delighted to learn that Pandora Brilliance uses lab-created diamonds and I am so proud of Pandora for their work in creating a sustainable future.

The modern infinity design included in the Pandora Brilliance collection is perfect for commemorating important events in your life and I find it comparable to brands like Tiffany’s and Cartier.

Are Pandora Diamonds Real?

After the release of Pandora Brilliance, we look at the evidence and answer this interesting question…

Does Pandora have real diamonds?

With the announcement of the new Pandora Brilliance Collection on May 4, 2021, many questions have been raised regarding lab-created diamonds.

Yes, we know diamonds are forever, and with Pandora’s claim that they will use lab-created diamonds, does that really mean diamonds are for everyone?

The simple answer is yes, lab-created diamonds have the same optical, physical, and chemical properties as mined diamonds. In this post, we take a look at 10 reasons why lab-created diamonds are the best choice ethically, environmentally, and for your wallet.

7.jpg

The Pandora Brilliance line was released exclusively in the UK on Thursday 6 May

Until May 4, 2021, all Pandora diamonds were mined from diamond mines. From Pandora Brilliant onwards, all newly released diamond jewelry will feature lab-created diamonds.

Top 10 Facts About Pandora Brilliance

1.jpg

1) Lab-created diamonds are essentially the same as lab-mined diamonds.

The FTC (US Federal Trade Commission) has ruled that a Diamond is a Diamond, whether it is lab-grown or mined from underground.” It further explains that “The Commission no longer defines ‘diamond’ using the term ‘natural’ because it is no longer necessary to define diamonds as ‘natural’ when it is possible to create products that have essentially the same optical, physical and chemical characteristics.” properties of mined diamonds.

2.jpg

2) Lab-created diamonds are guaranteed ethically sourced, conflict-free and free of child labor.

Conflict Diamonds or Blood Diamonds finance wars and conflicts in Africa and other parts of the world. While child labor is a common practice in some countries such as Sierra Leone where children are often used to mine diamonds.

3.jpg

3) Lab-created diamonds are also rated with four C’s.

Lab-grown diamonds are more affordable than conventionally mined diamonds and are graded and certified in exactly the same way using the four Cs. The four Cs determine the quality of a gemstone by cut, carat, color and clarity.

These beautiful diamonds are laboratory grown. They are identical at the molecular level and have the same beauty and strength as conventionally mined diamonds and rank #1 on the globally recognized Mohs scale of gemstone hardness.

4.jpg

4) Pandora Brilliance products are made of CarbonNeutral® carbon fiber.

Sphera’s carbon neutral assessment identifies greenhouse gas emissions (GHG emissions) as the main potential environmental impact in the value chain of lab-created diamonds. This is due to the amount of energy used in growing lab-created diamonds, including the use of raw materials such as high purity methane gas and hydrogen. Lab-created Pandora diamonds are CarbonNeutral® certified products under the CarbonNeutral Protocol, the world’s leading standard for carbon neutrality. To achieve Pandora’s CarbonNeutral® product certification, Pandora is working with leading carbon neutrality and climate finance experts, Natural Capital Partners.

To date, the lab-created diamonds in the Pandora collection are, on average, grown using over 60% renewable energy sources, and greenhouse gas emissions from non-renewable energy sources are offset by our CarbonNeutral® product certification. Next year, when Pandora launches the collection worldwide, diamonds are expected to be produced using 100% renewable energy.

In addition to the CarbonNeutral® product certification for lab-created sustainable diamonds, Pandora has received a CarbonNeutral® product certification for the entire Pandora collection, including, for example, all Pandora Brilliants and their packaging. To achieve CarbonNeutral® certification, Pandora is supporting a carbon finance project that offsets any remaining carbon emissions.

5.jpg

5) Lab-created diamonds are not the same as synthetic or “fake” diamonds.

Lab-grown diamonds should not be confused with synthetic diamonds. Synthetic diamonds of low quality. You have probably seen them in the form of cubic zirconia, moissanite and clear quartz. They are artificially created and chemically different from lab-grown and mined diamonds. A certified gemologist can easily tell if a diamond is synthetic or not.

Here’s what the FTC (US Federal Trade Commission) has to say about the marketing of mined diamonds: The FTC warns marketers that using the terms “real”, “genuine”, “natural” or “synthetic” would be misleading. that a lab-grown diamond (i.e., a product with the same optical, physical, and chemical properties as a mined diamond) is not, in fact, a real diamond. As discussed below, the Commission no longer defines “diamond” using the term “natural” because it is no longer necessary to define diamonds as “natural” when it is now possible to create products that have essentially the same optical, physical, and physical properties. . and chemical properties of mined diamonds.

6.jpg

6) Pandora Brilliance is created using chemical vapor deposition (CVD).

Lab diamonds are man-made using one of two processes: HPHT and CVD.

HPHT is a high pressure, high temperature process that mimics the natural creation of diamonds in the earth. CVD stands for chemical vapor deposition. Both processes are similar to the natural creation of diamonds in the earth, however they are much faster and easier to control. Under these conditions, the creation of a rough diamond takes only months, not billions of years. This means that it is easier to create a nearly perfect flawless diamond. Lab-grown diamonds are categorized as Type IIA diamonds. Less than 2% of the world’s diamonds mined belong to this category.

7.jpg

7) Lab-created diamonds go through the same three-step process as mined diamonds.

The creation of sustainable lab-created diamonds follows three major production steps referred to as the value chain for lab-created diamonds. This value chain begins with the extraction of raw materials to generate gases used for the CVD process, which results in laboratory rough diamonds that are then cut and polished, ready to be hand-set into Pandora jewelry. The cutting and polishing stage is similar to the cutting and polishing of mined diamonds. The three main production steps are shown in the figure above.

8.jpg

8) In 2018, De Beers changed the diamond market by opening a diamond lab in the UK.

Lightbox Jewelry was launched in 2018 and, leveraging the technology expertise of De Beers Element Six business, provides consumers with lab-grown diamonds at an affordable price.

A De Beers lightbox states: “Lab-grown diamonds have an identical chemical composition to natural diamonds, both of which are pure carbon in cubic crystalline form. The difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds is how they are shaped. Natural diamonds take millions of years to form underground, while lab-grown diamonds can be created in a lab in a matter of weeks. Diamonds in lightboxes are grown to match the chemical properties of natural diamond, and the finished stone is optically identical.”

9) Sustainability

Community reforestation, East Africa

To offset the remaining carbon emissions, Pandora is supporting a community reforestation project in Kenya and Uganda, Community Reforestation, East Africa. The project organizes community-based tree planting initiatives involving over 12,000 small groups involving 90,000 farmers. According to traditional practice, farmers cut down trees to increase the availability of agricultural land, which reduces the quality of the soil by removing nutrients. Such forestry projects combine carbon sequestration with sustainable development, helping to improve the livelihoods of the population through education and training, and generating additional sources of income beyond smallholder farming. In addition, farmers are paid carbon finance for tree survival.

Key impacts of the project include:

  • Climate Impact: Over 15 million trees have been planted to date and are alive, growing and being monitored by the project. Removing carbon from the atmosphere, reducing emissions to take urgent action to combat climate change.
  • Training and Education: Nearly 50% of farmers increased their food supply through conservation agriculture training.
  • Women’s Empowerment: Women make up 42% in small farming groups. Women are given access to leadership training and teams are encouraged to use a rotational leadership structure. This allows women to take on managerial responsibilities that they may not have had before. The project is designed in accordance with the Verified Carbon Standard, the world’s leading voluntary greenhouse gas emission program.

10) Lab-created diamonds break the mining monopoly!

Diamonds are the cartels’ best friends. De Beers’ centennial sovereignty over diamonds has been hailed as one of the most visible monopolies in history. Founded in 1888 by British tycoon Cecil Rhodes, De Beers capitalized on supply and demand for mined diamonds through a series of antitrust measures that included persuading other producers to join a price-setting cartel and curbing non-cooperating producers.

Lab-grown diamonds have been around for over sixty years, with little impact on the diamond cartel. Things have changed in recent years thanks to cutting-edge technology and consumer emphasis on ethically sourced, eco-friendly, eco-friendly luxury jewelry.

Now it remains for you to decide — Which diamonds do YOU choose?
